Often outside our circle, if you mention the word, statistics! The reply is often ‘There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.
We use social media to communicate, this includes LinkedIn, a network for professionals. This means that it can become a vehicle to illuminate and influence opinion about current affairs.
There is often opportunity to bring greater clarity to current affairs stories by using statistical techniques.
I will present topics of interest to UK society which I have worked on and presented on LinkedIn over the last years, telling the statistical story.
The topics include Covid-19, Gas prices and small boats crossing the channel.
I will finish with what I believe is the future challenge, that of using statistical analysis, involving current affairs, leading to real actions and change which improves society.
